The Wigwam Wanderer

from $35.00

After a long day on the road, we pulled into the iconic Wigwam Motel in Holbrook for the night. The next morning, this was the scene. This wonderfully bizarre vehicle—part VW Beetle, part custom-built camper—was parked right next to us, looking perfectly at home among the concrete teepees.

It’s a portrait of the sheer, delightful quirkiness you can only find on the Mother Road. The custom red-and-blue paint job of the "Beetle Bungalow" stands out against the soft, early light of the Arizona sky. This photograph is a tribute to the free-spirited wanderers and the one-of-a-kind landmarks that make this journey so unforgettable.

A signature piece from the "Automobile Archaeology" chapter of "The Great American Roadtrip" collection, this print is a celebration of the road's unique character.

Print & Medium

This photograph is all about the wonderful, quirky colors—the deep red of the car, the faded blue of the camper—set against the soft, cool tones of the twilight sky. A fully matte paper would dull these colors, and a high-gloss paper would create distracting reflections.

Therefore, my premium paper choice is the Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin. Its subtle satin-gloss finish is perfect for making these colors pop with rich saturation. It will render the details of the custom paint job and the texture of the teepees with a beautiful, lifelike depth and a nostalgic, cinematic feel.

"The Wigwam Wanderer" is available in sizes up to 24x30 inches. Please contact me directly for custom sizes, framing, or other medium requests.
