The Offering

from $35.00

One of the things that amazed me on this safari was seeing birds that were so familiar, yet entirely different. This was on Lake Naivasha. I immediately recognized these two as kingfishers, but they were a world away from the small, rattling Belted Kingfishers we have in the US. These were Giant Kingfishers, and they are massive by comparison.

I was lucky to find two perched together on a log. The moment became truly special when I realized one was holding a crayfish, presenting it to the other.

"The Offering" is that rare, intimate, behavioral photograph. It’s not just a portrait, but a complex story of partnership (or perhaps courtship) frozen in a single frame.

A signature piece from the "Feathered Majesty" chapter of the "Africa's Primal Grace" collection, this print is a rare and intimate narrative of life in the wild.

Print & Medium

This photograph is all about the story and the details—the intricate speckling on the feathers, the birds' expressions, and the sharp focus on the crayfish. To do this justice, my choice for this print is the Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta. This is a museum-grade paper with a subtle, beautiful satin-gloss finish. This surface is renowned for producing incredibly deep, rich blacks (perfect for the dark feathers) while making the details of the "offering" pop with crisp, vibrant clarity. It's the ideal medium to bring this detailed, narrative scene to life.

This print is available in sizes up to 24x36 inches. Please contact me directly for custom sizes, framing, or other medium requests.
