It’s easy to get distracted on safari, to focus only on the "big ticket" items. We were at Lake Nakuru, and almost everyone's attention was on a white rhino and calf. But they were resting in bad light, and my eye was completely stolen by this.

This Grey Crowned Crane simply stopped me in my tracks. I couldn't take my eyes off it. The pose was so elegant, the form a study in graceful curves, and that magnificent, straw-like crown looked like a piece of fine art in itself.
