This photograph was taken on Lake Naivasha, a stunning freshwater lake between Nairobi and Nakuru. The first time you see an African Fish Eagle, your brain says, "That's a Bald Eagle." And they behave just like one, with that same powerful, majestic focus.

It was a thrill to see so many of them, but I was determined to capture the "peak action" moment: the hunt. This eagle descended with incredible speed, wings cupped to brake, and its formidable talons extended just an instant before it hit the water.
