Dappled Light in the Pool

from $35.00

I had taken a friend to the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail for a morning of shooting. This quiet, mossy cascade was our last stop, and the light was changing fast. The high-angle sun was beginning to break through the canopy, invading the deep, cool shade of the hollow with these bright, dappled patches of light. This photograph captures that fleeting, transitional moment—the beautiful, high-contrast battle between the deep shadows of the stream and the first strong rays of the day.

A long-exposure captures the silky movement of water as it cascades under a rustic log, settling into a serene pool in the foreground. "Dappled light," the subject of the photo, breaks through the forest canopy, creating a bright, glowing reflection in the still water and illuminating the vibrant green moss on the surrounding boulders. The scene is a study in contrasts: of light and shadow, of moving water and still rock.

A signature piece from the "Mountain Moods" gallery, this photograph captures the quiet, hidden beauty of an Appalachian stream.

Print & Medium:

The entire story of this image is the "dappled light" reflecting in the water. To make that light truly glow and feel alive, my choice for this print is the Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin. A matte paper would dull those critical highlights, but the Baryta Satin has an elegant, soft sheen that is perfect for high-contrast water scenes. It will make the light reflecting in the pool look luminous, while also rendering the saturated greens of the moss and the deep, rich shadows with beautiful, three-dimensional detail.

"Dappled Light in the Pool" is available in sizes up to 24x30 inches. Please contact me directly for custom sizes, framing, or other medium requests.
