Big Dreams

from $45.00

It is often said that every photograph is both a truth and a lie. This image is a perfect example of that idea. In reality, this coyote is not seriously considering an adult bison as prey. And yet, the composition—the locked gaze, the space between them, the shared snowy landscape—tells a story of a classic standoff, a moment of tension between two very different survivors.

The bright winter sun casts sharp shadows on the snow, illuminating the scene with a brilliant, clean light. The coyote, a small, lean figure of grays and tans, looks intently at the massive, dark form of the bison. The bison, its own face dusted with snow, appears to be grazing, seemingly unconcerned by the smaller animal's presence. In the end, the "truth" of the scene played out: the coyote eventually walked on, giving its imagined prey a wide and respectful berth.

A signature piece from the "Winter's Sovereigns" chapter of "The Frozen Kingdom" collection, this print is a playful look at the stories we find in nature, capturing a moment of narrative illusion.

Print & Medium

This photograph is defined by its bright, high-contrast sunlight and the vast, textured snowfield. To capture the brilliant whites without losing the rich, natural tones of both animals' fur, my premium paper choice is Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin. This paper excels at rendering deep blacks and a wide tonal range. Its subtle satin-lustre finish will preserve the sharp details in the sunlit fur and snow, giving the print a clean, luminous quality without distracting glare.

"Big Dreams" is offered in sizes up to 20x40 inches. Please contact me directly for custom sizes, framing, or other medium requests.
