The Plunge

from $35.00

Roaring Fork is a place I return to often, and it's a constant reminder that the same place never looks the same way twice. For this shot, I was back in the water, exploring the stream's edge. I was struck by how this one small section, which I might have overlooked before, felt so powerful from this low angle. It's a perfect example of that feeling: upon further reflection, what seems familiar becomes something new. This isn't just another cascade; it's a single, concentrated, and powerful 'plunge.'

Water, smoothed to a silky texture by a long exposure, gathers and narrows as it funnels between two dark, mossy boulders. It bursts into a bright white 'plunge' as it hits the pool below, the energy dissipating into soft, white foam. The surrounding rocks and lush, green foliage are cast in deep, cool shadow, making the bright cascade the undeniable, explosive focal point of this intimate scene.

A signature piece from the "Mountain Moods" gallery, this photograph is a meditation on finding new energy and beauty in familiar places.

Print & Medium:

The power of "The Plunge" is in the bright, explosive energy of the water contrasted with the dark, wet rocks. To capture this, my choice for this print is the Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin. A matte paper would dull the highlights, but the Baryta Satin has an elegant, soft sheen that is essential here. It will make the bright, cascading water look luminous and pearlescent, while also rendering the deep greens and slick, mossy rocks with a vibrant, true-to-life feel.

"The Plunge" is available in sizes up to 24x30 inches. Please contact me directly for custom sizes, framing, or other medium requests.
